UCT Writing Centre

With the semester having come to a close on Friday 27 November, the Writing Centre’s consultations within the Research Commons has also come to an end. Although they are officially closed, the Writing Center will continue running on skeleton staff, with a reduced roster, to provide support for Postgraduate students until Tuesday 15 December. Appointments can be scheduled via their online booking system.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Writing Centre for providing an invaluable service throughout the year. We look forward to continuing this successful partnership between the Research Commons and the Writing Centre in 2016.

2015-11-24_Hewitson_700Climate change scientist Professor Bruce Hewitson is UCT’s newest A-rated researcher following the latest round of National Research Foundation ratings.

A-ratings are awarded to researchers who are “unequivocally recognised by their peers as leading international scholars in their field for the high quality and impact of their recent research outputs”.

Further good news is that Drs Robyn Pickering and Katye Altieri have been awarded P-ratings, also known as the NRF President’s Award. These are awarded to young researchers (under 35) who, on the basis of their research outputs in their early postdoctoral careers, are likely to become future leaders in their field.

Pickering is an isotope geochemist and lecturer in the Department of Geological Sciences. Altieri is a senior research officer in energy, environment and climate change in the Energy Research Centre.
